Beginner Ceramic Hand-building (Workshop Series)
No prior experience is required to attend these workshops. Ideal for first-timers or anyone interested in ceramics without the commitment of a full term. All materials and tools will be provided.
WORKSHOP 1: HAND-BUILDING BASICS
Learn the basic techniques of forming everyday items by hand – such as cups, bowls, plates and vases. Explore different clays, create your own beautiful pieces and walk away with a new art skill. If attending this workshop only, we'll help finish your work in your choice of glaze after the class.
WORKSHOP 2: GLAZE & COLOUR
In this follow-up workshop, you'll learn how to glaze and colour the pieces you made in the first session. We'll cover a range of surface decoration techniques using brush-on glazes and underglazes, deepening your understanding and appreciation of the ceramic process. Attendance to the first workshop is required to participate in this session.
Workshops are sold separately and held at The University of Melbourne (Parkville), with up to 10 participants per session. Please wear an apron or old shirt you don't mind getting dirty. Participants will be notified once their work is ready for collection; typically 3-4 weeks after their last workshop.
