Intro to Ceramic Hand-Building
This 2.5-hour workshop will introduce you to basic hand-building techniques for creating everyday ceramic items – such as cups, bowls, spoons, plates, and vases. You will have opportunities to explore different clays, make and decorate your own pieces, and take home your unique creations.
Ideal for first-timers or anyone interested in ceramics without the commitment of a full term. No prior experience is required, and all materials and tools will be provided. Workshops are small with up to 12 participants per session to allow greater individual attention and focus.
What can I expect on the day? The workshop will be hosted by Amanda, starting with a hand-building demonstration followed by free time for participants to work on their own ideas. Participants will be introduced to simple decoration techniques to add detail to the forms they have created. Finally, participants will select from a variety of glazes to complete their works. All pieces will be glazed by Amanda after the workshop and fired in a local community kiln. Finished pieces are typically ready to be picked up in 3-4 weeks.
Where is the workshop? The workshop will take place at The University of Melbourne. More details on location will be provided following confirmation of participant bookings and payment.
