The story behind our

Eye Design

Our Eye design is all about embracing our authentic selves and not being afraid to let others see us for exactly who we are. It’s not always an easy thing to do, as ‘being seen’ can feel vulnerable and oftentimes overwhelming.

But when we realise that being our natural selves is key to our own happiness and building strong, trusting relationships with others, we can find comfort in letting go of our ‘ideal selves’ and learn to unapologetically love ourselves for who we truly are.

“You are magic. Don't ever apologise for the fire within you.”

– Unknown

You are enough.

You are worthy.

You are loved.

You are seen.

Believing in these words didn’t come naturally. Growing up in a competitive school environment in Singapore, we’ve always felt the pressure to study better, work better and essentially be better. Who we were never seemed to be enough for others and there was a constant expectation to achieve and succeed.

We didn’t understand our worth. Instead, we learnt to tie our sense of self to external factors such as our grades, our job and our accolades. We fell into an unhealthy habit of people pleasing and got used to hiding the parts of ourselves that we didn’t want the world to see. It was tiring and we grew unhappy.

Fast forward to the present and we find ourselves wanting to tell our past self that we were more than enough. Our worthiness was always a given and not something that changes with competence, achievements or the opinions of others.

One of the key experiences that shifted our perspective on self worth was meeting our partner, Grant. He wanted to know us for who we were, not what we did, which was completely different to what others had wanted during our childhood. Grant is endless in his love and patience, and he is always there to pick us up on our worst days. He teaches us to laugh at life’s silly moments and to delight in unexpected moments. We feel incredibly free knowing that nothing we do could ever turn him away.

Through our relationship, we learnt the value of being our authentic selves. When we are authentic, we feel more confident and at ease in everyday life. The pressure to be more than we are fades, giving way to freedom and joy. Authenticity has also helped us see who our true friends really are, and to be grateful for those who have embraced us fully. We are loved. We are worthy. We are seen.

“Belonging comes from being yourself and being seen.”

– Melissa Camara Wilkins (Author)

Considering that society tends to promote a culture of fitting in, it might feel natural to only reveal aspects of our personality that would please and impress others. However, true belonging, as Melissa Camara Wilkins writes, actually comes from being seen – in all the ways that we are.

We created our Eye design to capture this important learning about authenticity. Our design serves as a gentle reminder that it is OK to express our truest and deepest selves. You too are loved. You too are worthy. You too are seen.
